About the Role
First Student is looking for a skilled Heavy Duty Technician to join our maintenance team in Rimbey. You'll be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing our fleet of school buses and other vehicles to ensure safe and reliable transportation for students.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on school buses and fleet vehicles (brakes, suspension, steering, electrical, etc.)
- Conduct safety inspections and preventative maintenance
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues using diagnostic tools
- Maintain accurate records of repairs and inspections
- Ensure compliance with provincial and federal safety standards
- Collaborate with the shop manager and other technicians to prioritize work orders
- Respond to road calls and emergency repairs when needed
Qualifications
- Journeyperson certification in Heavy Duty Equipment Technician or Red Seal preferred
- Experience working on buses, trucks, or commercial vehicles
- Valid driver's license (Class 5 required; Class 2 or 3 an asset)
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
- Familiarity with safety regulations and inspection standards in Alberta
