First Student, North America's largest provider of student transportation, is hiring a Fleet Maintenance Manager to lead our Ottawa maintenance operations. This is a high-impact leadership role for someone with strong mechanical expertise, a hands-on approach, and a passion for team development and operational excellence.

We're offering a competitive salary of $100,000, with a relocation package for qualified candidates residing outside the Ottawa area.

What You'll Do

• Oversee all maintenance activities at the Ottawa location
• Supervise and support technicians and service employees
• Schedule and manage fleet maintenance and repairs
• Troubleshoot equipment issues and ensure vehicle availability for dispatch
• Hire, train, and evaluate shop staff; manage performance and development
• Monitor maintenance budgets and review financial variances
• Ensure compliance with provincial, federal, and company safety standards
• Review repair orders, manage parts inventory, and subcontract work as needed
• Lead initiatives to improve efficiency and reduce operating costs
• Perform hands-on mechanical work when required
• Oversee fueling operations and facility maintenance

What We're Looking For

• High school diploma or equivalent (technical training preferred)
• Minimum 5 years of mechanical supervisory experience
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines and school bus equipment (preferred)
• Excellent communication and leadership skills
• Proficiency with computers and maintenance software
• Ability to lift 20-50 lbs and work in shop conditions (dust, grease, crouched positions)
