As a Technician at First Student, you'll play a vital role in keeping our fleet running smoothly-ensuring every child gets to and from school safely and on time. This isn't just a job; it's a chance to make a real difference in your community.
Schedule: Full-Time | Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Starting Pay: $19.00/hour (based on experience and qualifications; not flat-rate)
Higher pay available for candidates with a CDL Class B or above

What We Offer:

CDL Bonus Pay: Higher starting rate for candidates with a CDL Class B or above
ASE Incentive Pay: Additional $0.25/hour for each relevant ASE certification (we pay for training and exams)

As a First Student Mechanic, you'll help ensure our fleet of school buses is safe, reliable, and road-ready. You will:
Service and repair brakes, suspensions, drivetrains, and transmissions
Perform routine maintenance and system inspections
Complete accurate work orders and documentation
Assist with mobile emergency repairs when needed
Maintain a clean and organized work environment
Follow DOT and company safety standards
Education & Certifications:
High school diploma or GED preferred
Completion of a vocational or technical program in vehicle repair (required)
CDL Class B with passenger endorsement preferred (must be obtained within 3 months of hire; training and support provided)
ASE certification preferred; must begin testing within 1 year and earn at least 1 certification within 24 months
Experience & Skills:
Minimum of entry-level mechanical experience required - must have completed formal hands-on training through school, trade programs, or previous repair roles
Familiarity with basic vehicle systems and repair practices
Valid driver's license
Ability to use hand tools and follow mechanical procedures
Basic computer and diagnostic skills
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
Must maintain a personal tool set appropriate for the role
Reliable attendance is required
Ability to lift at least 50 pounds
Comfortable working in crouched positions or under vehicles
Shop environment with exposure to dust, grease, and varying weather conditions
This is a safety-sensitive position and subject to DOT drug testing regulations. Use of Schedule I drugs, including marijuana, is prohibited regardless of state laws or prescriptions.
