First Student is now hiring an Assistant Transportation Manager to join our team serving the Memphis Shelby County School District. This position plays a key role in supporting the Contractual Manager with day-to-day operations, ensuring safe and reliable transportation for our students.

We're looking for a hands-on leader who can balance operational needs with a strong commitment to safety, performance, and customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all home-to-school routes are completed safely, efficiently, and on time

  • Communicate with drivers regarding performance and operational concerns

  • Investigate and resolve client complaints in a timely manner

  • Monitor on-time performance and implement improvements as needed

  • Conduct safety checks and address potential issues proactively

  • Assist with the review and resolution of union grievances

  • Oversee dispatch operations to ensure proper driver and vehicle assignments

  • Review and correct athletic trip invoices in accordance with company policies

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • 3-5 years of experience in transportation

  • 2-3 years of supervisory experience

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

  • Basic understanding of vehicle maintenance and mechanical processes

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Willingness to work extended hours, including weekends

  • Reliable personal vehicle for travel within the service area
